Our Most Anticipated Games for 2026
In a retrospective of the year 2025 in gaming, it could be said that the AAA-games keep disappointing and indie games keep winning. It’s an interesting phenomenon to behold; we see surprise hit games that look incredibly fun, all on their own merits such as PEAK, while the big budget Call of Duty has been called the biggest flop in the history of the franchise. Personally, as a retro-gamer, I’m still warm and fuzzy over 2025 releases such as Gradius Origins, X-Out: Resurfaced, R-Type Delta: HD Boosted, and Earthion.
Looking ahead into the coming year, we are promised a great mix of classic style indie games, and even some big hitters – great variation overall, once again. Take a look at our most anticipated games for 2026, in no particular order; there’s something for everyone here!
Raiden Fighters Remix Collection
A new collection of classic Raiden arcade shooting games is coming to PS4, PS5 and Switch, in exclusive collector’s edition style physical releases.
Resident Evil: Requiem
The Resident Evil games have been a staple diet for many gamers throughout the years, and the new Requiem game looks just incredible in every possible way.
Mad King Redemption
Mad King Redemption is one of many games that we anticipated last year already, but seeing as that didn’t materialize, here we are; still waiting for this amazing looking sword and sorcery arcade brawler to release, and it’s looking better than ever in the new trailer.
Psyvariar 3
The announcement of the third installment in the Psyvariar game series came as a complete surprise to me, but a welcome one nonetheless. The game looks incredible in the few short clips we’ve seen, and I can’t wait to play it!
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction
He-Man was my favorite toy-line growing up, and the love for sword and sorcery style fantasy has just never left me; and now it’s here in an arcade beat-em-up style game! Having just played the incredible Marvel Cosmic Invasion, I, for sure, am hungry for more of the same!
Apidya’ Special
I remember playing Apidya’ back in the 90s on our Amiga 500 computer, and was amazed that the graphics looked so good, and the music was just mind-blowing. Imagine my surprise when a remake to this “hidden gem” of a game was announced…!
Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement
We’re big fans of the Bloodstained games; they’ve upheld an incredibly high standard for what they do; classic style arcade action front loaded with an elegant and mysterious dark fantasy theme. This new title looks amazing, if you enjoy side-scrolling action games at all.
Dawn of War IV
After the release of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Definitive Edition, it looks like the Dawn of War franchise is on the right track again. Simply the fact alone that this new sequel was announced is mind-blowing on its own, and the fact that it looks amazing is enough to max out my hype meter.
Max Payne 1 & 2
We are eager to see how the new Max Payne 1 & 2 remake project is going to turn out; unfortunately not much is shown or known about this game yet, other than that it combines the first two Max Payne games into a single game. Chances are that it’s going to be an absolute banger.
Fatekeeper
A first-person, fantasy action adventure game with lots of brutal violence, wicked monsters, and gorgeous environments. This looks like an incredibly awe-inspiring game to explore.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword
The Onimusha games take place in mythic Japan, where demons invade and turn the otherwise peaceful land into chaos, corruption, and madness. Definitely one to check out!
Saros
Another third-person shooter from Housemarque, who brought us Returnal back in 2021. If you’re into fast-paced action, dodging traps, and destroying monsters and robots with high-powered weaponry, you should check this one out.
Warhammer Survivors
Following the trend-setting smash-hit Vampire Survivors, it’ll be interesting to see the concept translated into the grim dark universe of Warhammer. The idea is simple and elegant; fast paced arcade action with lots of monsters to kill, and loot to collect.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2
A new, retro styled first-person shooter in the grim dark world of Warhammer 40,000; a perfect supplement to previous Warhammer games like Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 or even Rogue Trader.
Screamer
Another unexpected return of a retro classic; the original Screamer games are arcade style racing games, and this new teaser trailer appears to promise an even more playful take on the racing game genre, with cartoon style characters and neon colored city streets.
Grim Dawn: Fangs Of Asterkarn
Grim Dawn is arguably one of the best action RPGs ever made, and the upcoming expansion is still on the horizon! We can’t wait to jump back in to slay a gazillion monsters again with magic swords. It just never gets old.
Solasta 2
The first Solasta game was an unforgettable co-op RPG adventure, with lots of interesting, challenging and tactical battles. Here’s hoping that this sequel will be able to recreate or even surpass its predecessor!
Rogue Point
A tactical, co-op, first-person shooter with interesting loadouts. This game looks like it’s going to provide countless hours of mayhem and intense shoot-out action.
Truxton Extreme
The legendary Truxton game series is getting a modern sequel – a concept that is hard to believe even after seeing the game in action. This is definitely one for the fans.
Acts of Blood
An absolutely insane-looking street fighting game, that captures the dark, gritty atmosphere of street violence in a remarkable and stunning way. This game looks like great fun.
Final Formation
Another retro style arcade shooter featuring incredible mecha robots and gruesome aliens, coming to PC via Steam next year.
Carmageddon: Rogue Shift
A new Carmageddon game is coming. I have literally dreamt about this moment, so I guess some dreams come true? Eagerly looking forward to this game; the Carmageddon franchise appears almost cursed, as the sequels never quite manage to capture the charm and gameplay of the original. Perhaps this time…?
Revolgear Zero
Another retro styled, side-scrolling arcade shooting game to keep your eyes on. This game evokes fond memories of 16-bit era gaming, and we love it.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties
Yakuza 3, originally released on Playstation 3, is making a comeback in style with new content adding to the story. If you’re a fan of the series, this is a no-brainer.
Ananta
A strange game that tries to mix multiple genres into one big experience. Undeniably it looks interesting, with lots of stuff to do and discover. Hope it’s as good as it looks in the trailer!
Stranger Than Heaven
Another huge-looking game that we can’t wait to dive into. Amazing atmosphere and gripping story, as expected from the developers of Yakuza.
Samson
This game appears to not only have a detailed city to explore, but also a rather unique “debt mechanic” where you are constantly fighting to repay debt as a criminal. What a clever way to assure constant drama and action.
Streets of Fortuna
An immersive life simulator where your goal is to survive (or even thrive?) in the streets of a medieval town. Games like these are so easy to get lost in, in a good way.
Total War: Medieval III
Finally a new title in the “Medieval” series of Total War has been announced. As a fan of medieval history, with knights, epic battles, and sieges, I can’t wait to see what this next installment will look and feel like.
Path of Exile 2
Path of Exile 2 has been in early access for a while already, and we’ve already played it a lot. But the full release is said to be around the corner, so we’re expecting it to launch within the next year, and when it launches it will make a splash. This can easily be one of the best games ever made.
Dungeons Deep
Speaking of dungeons, Dungeons Deep appears to dial back on the typical heroic fantasy and instead going the other direction; survival and struggle in a highly dangerous dungeon environment. I really hope this game can re-ignite some passion for horror fantasy and creepy dungeon crawling.
Light No Fire
A fantasy survival action adventure that also promises to deliver a technical marvel with its enormous open world; here’s hoping that it will be both exciting and challenging to explore, especially in co-op.
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined
A charming RPG with gorgeous graphics, promising an unforgettable adventure with fun characters, epic plot twists and plenty of monsters to battle.
R-Type Dimensions III
The original R-Type 3 would be an excellent candidate for making a remake of, perhaps fixing some of its pain points (can we please have more check points in the game?). Looks like we will have a shot at just that next year.
Divinity
Oh wow, the new Divinity game was just announced with a trailer that will make heads turn… It seems this game will have a darker and more menacing tone? Either way, this game will be great, whenever it releases (it won’t be 2026, but I still included it here because this is so hype).
Decrepit
Are dark dungeon crawlers becoming a trend? I certainly hope so, because as a veteran Game Master, I know for a fact that this genre has so much more to offer than what’s currently out there. This game looks to focus on exactly those things; horror, exploration, and survival in a hostile environment.
Gang of Dragon
We don’t know much about this game yet, but this trailer looks amazing, and in the same vein as the beloved Yakuza games – gripping story, cool characters, and intense action.
No Law
An “immersive simulator” set in a vibrant, exotic, and crazy cyberpunk-style world? This looks like a game that will be absolutely mind-blowing to explore.
Orbitals
The world needs more co-op oriented games, so we’re delighted to see this announcement trailer. Here’s hoping that it’s coming to PC as well…
